Abstract

This article explores the process of renaming of the US toponyms, which activates linguistic and extralinguistic factors, reflecting changes in the political, cultural, social and spiritual spheres of the society. The most active process of toponyms’ renaming is observed during political regime changes, revolutions and wars. In these periods one can observe a kind of "renaming of the past" or a "historical revision of the past" in order to inculcate political ideology in human daily life.
