Abstract

The study of folklore and written sources that reveal the specifics of social relations in the Bashkir society of the XVII-XVIII centuries, testifies to the absence of pronounced hierarchy among the tribal structures. In political terms the Bashkir society was acephalous polity, possessing the advantage in comparison with government agencies in matters of military mobilization, control of territory and social cohesion. These factors resulted in a long and complex integration of Bashkirs in the administrative structure of the Russian state.
