Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of thematic taboos in English linguistic culture on the example of personal questions. On the basis of dialogues from British films of the 21st century, the author demonstrates that questions relating to personal life, family, emotions and feelings of a person, intimate relationships and sexual orientation are often characterized as inappropriate in English communication. The author considers that such questions show disrespect for the interlocutor or they are purposeful verbal aggression.
