This article examines the role of intertextual connections in the formation of underlying meanings and the interpretation of the author's intention. The main goal of the study is to identify the intertextual connections presented in R. Joyce's story “Christmas Day at the Airport.” The objectives of the study were to examine existing theoretical concepts of intertextuality and the linguistic forms of its expression, as well as to conduct a qualitative content analysis of the text. The study identified extralinguistic (references to religious, cultural, and social contexts), intertextual (connections with other works in the collection), and linguistic (forms of expressing intertextuality at the linguistic level) intertextual elements that form the multilayered structure of meaning in the analyzed story.
