Abstract

This article examines the structural and semantic features of headlines in contemporary French media discourse. A study of the online publication Le Monde confirms the view of many researchers that authors emphasize not only verbal means of constructing information but also actively employ visualization techniques such as graphics, font, color, and punctuation, which create a deep subtext within the semantic structure of the headline as a polycode symbol. The category of implicitness inherent in the headline serves as a means of activating the reader's attention, prompting them to obtain more complete information in the subsequent text. An analysis of the use of typography and punctuation in contemporary French usage in online newspaper headlines reveals key trends in their use: the formation of additional meanings within the subtext and its stylistic and emotional potential.
