Abstract

The article analyzes the main politeness strategies, with the help of which the maxim of modesty functions. It regulates the communicative behavior of the addresser and addressee in German and Russian linguocultures when expressing praise and self-criticism. The article reveals the most common means of verbalizing communicative politeness strategies that aim at minimizing self-praise and expressing moderate self-criticism both from the addresser and addressee.
