Abstract
The article investigates semantic implications of political nicknames used to refer to American and British political leaders. Political nicknames are considered as forming an axiological cultural code of community. Their semantic interpretation can be successful and fruitful based on linguacultural and cognitive methods of analysis. Political nicknames currently not included in dictionaries and reference books have been selected for analysis to illustrate procedures of their semantic interpretation, bring to light sources of their cultural and national features that may create ethnocultural barriers and account for difficulties of perception and understanding in intercultural political communication.
