Abstract

The article shows the results of a survey in which 125 German respondents aged 18 to 61 took part. The survey focused on the use of non-verbal means of communication in such most common situations of speech etiquette as “Greeting” and “Leave-taking”. The findings of the survey reveal the most frequently used means of non-verbal communication employed in greeting and leave-taking in the communicative behavior of the German linguistic and cultural community. The article also describes nationally and culturally specific features of non-verbal communication of the Germans in comparison with non-verbal communicative behavior of the Russians.
