Abstract

The total area of the continental shelf of Russia is more than 6 million km2, which is 25% of the total shelf area of the World Ocean. According to expert estimates, the leading place in hydrocarbon reserves in the Russian shelf belongs to the subsoil of the Arctic seas - Barents (49%), Pechora (15%), Kara (35%), Laptev Sea. One of the most promising targets for today is the development of new reserves of the Kara Sea shelf. The area under the study is part of the territory, which is a geological extension of the West Siberian oil and gas province. The article deals with the problem of mastering the study of the Arctic shelf of Russia, using the example of geological and geophysical exploration of the Kara Sea shelf. The contributions of geological and geophysical research on the shelf are generalized and analyzed. The results of scientific research work on the study of the geological structure of the Kara oil and gas bearing basin are summarized. Approach of application of the basin analysis and the complex methods of methods of search and prospecting researches in the territory of the Arctic shelf which will allow without wrong to give a full picture about geological the building and prospects of oil-and-gas content, for further statement of priorities is offered.
