Strategies of culture-specific words rendering

The article deals with the problems of translating culture-specific words from Russian into English. The relevance of the work is predetermined by the absence of consistent approach to the translation of this group of vocabulary. The research is based on the works of Russian writers and their translations into English. Translation strategies of domestication and foreignization are the possible ways to convey the national-specific character of the investigated vocabulary. It was found that when translating culture-specific words from Russian into English, the strategy of domestication was used almost three times more often than the strategy of foreignization.
