The article provides a historical overview of the events and facts related to the formation of oil and gas business in Bashkortostan, starting with the first written documentary evidence of the presence of oil sources. The historical way of search and discovery of the first oil fields in Bashkortostan, which had industrial value, is traced. The importance of the discovery and development of oil resources of Bashkortostan for the economy, social and cultural development of the Republic. The current state of the petrochemical, chemical and oil refining industry of the Republic of Bashkortostan is considered.
