Abstract

The paper provides a comparative analysis of the tonality of the original text by O. Henry’s novella “The Gift of the Magi” (1905) and its translation into Russian by E. D. Kalashnikova in 1946, using software tools, namely, a special program in the Python programming language. The research uses such methods of source text processing as automatic removal of hyphenation symbols and extra spaces, as well as splitting the text into separate sentences, which allows to determine the tonality of the text and display the diagram of tonality.
