Abstract

The article describes the main characteristics of ornithological symbols which share their distinctive features with all other symbols. These basic distinctive features are the following: dualism, dialecticity, cultural specificity, elementary form, polyvalency and historicity. The three types of ornithosymbols are singled out in accordance with the comprised layers of the archetypic consciousness. They are universal, culturally specific and individual ornithosymbols. It is shown that culturally specific ornithosymbols are connected with the definite images of various bird species, which are of great value in human activity.
