Abstract

The article discusses the problem of translation of culturally-marked vocabulary from Russian into English. The relevance of the work lies in the fact that among interpreters there is no consistent approach to the ways of rendering this group of vocabulary. Chekhov’s works and their translations into English have been investigated. It turned out that the most commonly used method of translation is approximate translation, the rarest being loan translation. Cases of descriptive translation and transcription have also been identified.
